The Perceived Parental Behavior of Siblings

Summary: The study analyses the differences between siblings and the influences of their constellation (position, number of siblings, difference of age, sex) with regard to the perceived parental behavior. 112 siblings aged 18 – 72 were examined in our study with The Questionnaire of Recalled Parental Rearing Behavior QRPRB, and The Sence of Coherence Scale – Leipziger Kurzskala SOC. According to the theoretical assumptions, the results show that the children perceived the parenting behavior differently, especially the emotional warmth of the parents. In families with high numbers of children and with high differences in age the siblings reported less parental warmth. The findings are discussed on the background of the concept of nonshared environment.
