STEEP - ein bindungstheoretisch und empirisch fundiertes Frühinterventionsprogramm
STEEP - an Attachment- and Research-based Early Intervention Program
2005, 287-292
Summary: Summary: STEEP is an early intervention program wich is based on attachment theory and research and has been evaluated in a randomized controlled study. Its essential parts are a straigth forward conversion of insights from the Minnesota longitudinal study on high risk mothers and their children aiming at changing internal working models as well as quality of interaction and social support. Core to STEEP is using Video (Seeing is Believing) in biweekly homevisits and watching them together with the mothers, focusing on their strenghts and supporting them to develop “effective and enjoyable parenting”. Since interactions are guided by inner representations, attachment history and inner working models of attachment relationships and self are addressed in STEEP in an integrative, transactional way (Looking back, moving forward). That means, adressing the way how representations and parental care are mutually transforming each other. Biweekly group sessions offer not only opportunities to build social support but also to provide information about child development and parenting. More important than its structural characteristics are the outlined core principals and the general attitude of the STEEP program. The most important is the focus on strenghts in relationships and in providing a secure base within the therapeutic relationship.
