Scheidungskinder im Urteil von Lehrerinnen und Lehrern
Children of Divorce from Teachers' Point of View
2005, 272-280
Summary: 144 Viennese teachers rated adaptive behaviour of one child from a divorced family and one child from a two-parent-family, each from the same grade. The teachers were also asked whether they personally had experienced divorce and their attitudes towards divorce were inquired. The results show significant unfavourable judgements of the children of divorce in all diagnosed areas. There was no significant relation between the teachers’ attitudes towards divorce or personal divorce experience and their way of judgements. These results correspond to those of a study carried out in a small German city in 1995. Personal divorce experience was not related to teachers’ judgements either. The results are discussed in relation to the problem of using teachers’ judgements as a criterion of adaptive behaviour of children of divorce.
