Prevention of Emotional and Behaviour Disorders at Preschool Age
2005, 129-144
Summary: Lacking emotional-social competences represent a considerable development-risk for children and can lead to manifest behaviour disorders. Such disorders show an unfavourable prognosis and cause enormous social expenses. Already children in kindergarten show such deficits that may grow stronger at grade school age. For many pedagogues the behaviour disorders of their pupils cause considerable stress. Consequently, an early prevention is of central meaning. This contribution first gives an overview of relevant empirical results concerning the prevalence of emotional-social competence deficits. Furthermore it presents essential outcomes of the evaluation of universal-preventive interventions. The article mainly focuses on the attempt to establish a theoretical base of universal-preventive interventions that especially emphasizes on the status of emotional competences.
