Summary: This paper presents issues and problems in the field of developmental diagnostics today. Recommendations about the use of developmental tests in the context of early interventions are given. The question if the principles of applied developmental psychology are guiding developmental diagnostics is discussed. Proposals regarding the progress of developmental diagnostics are made in consideration of these principles.
