2004, 271-281
Summary: The present research project explores the conditions for the creation of identity of girls and young women (15 to 18 years) with a physical handicap. By means of partially standardised questionnaires, over 100 pupils and trainees of the German Bundesland Nordrhein-Westfalen have been interviewed in writing and their answers have been compared with the answers of a control group of non-handicapped girls. The questions were focused on the following identity relevant living domains: corporality, sex identity, social network, family, school/training, housing conditions/financial situation, leisure time, social/disability politics, sense of coherence. The article discusses some essential outcomes concerning school and training, family and leisure time, (sex-)identity. The quantitative research has been completed with a qualitative study that will be presented in a separate monograph.
