"Lernlust statt Lernfrust" - Evaluating a Parental Training to Reduce Conflicts Concerning Homework of Students with Learning Difficulties
2009, 303-318
Summary: This study investigated the effects of a program designed to reduce conflicts concerning homework and to improve parental self-efficacy and instructional practice in learning situations. The program provided general information and hands-on experiences to enhance first parental reflecting on general and school-related educational goals. Second it communicates motivating strategies as well as strategies for emotion regulation. 65 parents with 4th and 5th graders voluntarily participated in this evaluation study with a pre/post/follow-up control group design. Trained mothers were parallelized and assigned to two training versions (i.e., face-to-face-training sessions vs. self-help booklet). Results indicate that training participation causes positive changes in parenting skills and parental self-efficacy and contributes to a reduction of homework conflicts. Since both training versions do not markedly differ in their effectiveness, the study adds further empirical support of parenting self-help materials.
