Summary: Kindergarten offers the possibility to identify children who have developmental problems, because here many children leave their family surroundings for the first time and get in contact with other children. When the kindergarten teacher has noticed something special he or she can – by means of gradual action – report the children to early intervention services who will then carry out a detailed diagnostics. But until now it is little known if the kindergarten teacher can truly identify the children at risk and name the specific problems. In the present study 21 children were observed by their kindergarten teacher with a standard behaviour checklist (Dortmunder Entwicklungsscreening für den Kindergarten, DESK 3-6, Tröster, Flender & Reineke 2004). The comparison of the observations in kindergarten with the main diagnosis in the early intervention service show high agreement. These results are discussed with regard to the cooperation of both institutions.
