This tried-and-tested concept for group work with pain patients consists of individual sessions teaching patients techniques to control their pain. By exchanging ideas and opinions with fellow sufferers patients deal with their own situation in an active way and learn to find the right help offer for them. By introducing relaxation exercises, fantasy journeys and reading tips for the course instructor the group sessions are prepared in such a way that they can be deployed right away – as a course, open group, information offer for patient organisations or as a basis for one-on-one calls. Worksheets for patients for keeping their own “pain diary” and summaries of the sessions as a handout like the “Seven Steps to Relaxation” provide additional help. Target group Psychologists, alternative practitioners, physio- and occupational therapists, nursing staff members. The author Graduate psych. Helena Harms, Berlin, works as a relaxation therapist and supports pain patients as a rehab psychologist. She is the author of the books “Playfully learning mathematics“ and “Getting to sleep counting sheep“ published by Reinhardt Publishing House. up | ||
