Matthias Wenke:
Wie ein Adler Reich werden kann
The Congruence of Adlers Individual Psychology and Reichian Body Psychotherapy

2016, 134-143

Summary: This article deals with congruencies in the theories of Alfred Adler and Wilhelm Reich. Both Adler’s individual psychology and Reichian theory are based upon the fundamental premise of an inseparable nature of body and mind, which is why both should be equally regarded as pioneers of a holistic and humanistic idea of man. Both approaches can be understood from a point of view of phenomenology of the lived-body as defined by Merleau-Ponty.

Keywords: individual psychology, Alfred Adler, Wilhelm Reich, phenomenology, Merleau-Ponty, body psychotherapy, causality, finality, social interest, character analysis, holism, psyche and soma, functional identity
