Reducing Distress by an Interdisciplinary Support Program for Mothers of Very Preterm Infants - The Examination of Parenting Stress Scores

2010, 99-111

Summary: This study examined present parenting stress and satisfaction with a postdischarge service (Harl.e.kin-Nachsorge, Munich) in 71 mothers of very preterm children (mean age 2;11 years). At this point of time 15 % report a high parenting stress level in the PSI-SF which is no difference to mothers of term children according to the PSI-norm tables. More than 80 % reported a (high) satis-faction with the assistance in coping with daily problems which they had received, found the services very helpful or helpful and felt personally supported by the team. An interdisciplinary team approach seems to be useful especially for mothers with high stress levels who have to deal with feeding or sleeping problems or have to cope with a perspective of developmental disabilities in the child.
